An honest Speed Dial 2 alternative
I’m Joey, the designer and photographer who makes SpeedGrid. I built it after years of using visual speed-dial tools and wanting more control, calmer organization, and a clean way to move an existing setup forward.
Comparison verified against Speed Dial 2’s official listing and help center on August 14, 2026.
The short version
What feels different
Build separate grids for projects or parts of your life, then place related grids inside folders. A single card can also hold a primary and secondary destination—like a client dashboard and its Drive folder.
Typography, spacing, colors, card treatment, backgrounds, logos, and layout can be saved as visual profiles. Some built-in themes use photographs from my own travel archive.
SpeedGrid reads the JSON export Speed Dial 2 already provides. Choose which groups to bring over, merge matching URLs instead of duplicating them, and preserve imported colors and backgrounds as a profile.
Migration guide
Keep Speed Dial 2 installed until you have checked the imported result. Its export remains your untouched safety copy.
Open Preferences → System → Export. Speed Dial 2 downloads a JSON file containing your groups, bookmarks, and settings.
Official export instructionsSign in to SpeedGrid, open Settings → Backup, and choose Import Speed Dial 2 Export. Select the JSON file you just downloaded.
Add to SpeedGrid keeps your current grids and merges matching URLs. Replace current grids removes the current SpeedGrid layout, so download a SpeedGrid backup first if you choose it.
Review the group and bookmark counts, select what belongs in the new setup, and import. SpeedGrid supports up to 500 bookmarks in the current importer.
Stay where you are if...
Keep Speed Dial 2 if Firefox support, its native mobile apps, Focus Mode, or its recently-closed-tabs sidebar are central to your workflow. SpeedGrid does not pretend to win every row. It is the better experiment when visual precision, folders, dual-destination cards, and a responsive web workspace matter more.
Your old setup can come with you
